"Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho"

Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy, and Dopey of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs fame are my heroes—they enjoyed their work! “To dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, is what we really like to do” sang the dwarfs all the way home from their underground diamond mine.
“Work” has been on my mind lately for several reasons. Maybe it’s because I’m too pooped to pop or because Dr. Clinton Smith recently gave a presentation titled, The Morality and Nobility of Business. After reading Thou Shalt Prosper by Daniel Lapin, Dr. Smith, Senior Engineer at a Phoenix engineering technology firm, was motivated to encourage those attending a lunchtime leadership forum to embrace two important concepts— that business is a moral [good] activity and that there is inherent nobility in the activity of working and business.”
According to Smith, “business is both right and good.” It’s right because, “business creates wealth, which helps many by paying wages, stimulating the economy, and funding charity. In addition, profit results from mutually beneficial interaction with other human beings.” And business is good he pointed out because, “business is about service—service of the customer, the employees, the community.”
To defend his theory that work is noble, Dr. Smith adapted the Merriam-Webster.com definition of noble “[the quality of being] very good or excellent” to read, “working (of any sort), particularly in business, is excellent.” Since “work builds character; perseverance, patience, and reliability, and because work is good, and related to production and provides value to individuals, their families, and corporations, there is inherent nobility in the activity of working and business,” emphasized Smith.
You’ve probably had work on your mind too—it’s a 24/7/365 kind of a thing. Whether you’re Grumpy or Happy or Bashful or Sneezy while on the job, whether your work is inside or outside the home or both, and whether your work is great or a grind, keep in mind that your work is both good and noble. And one of these days try whistling “Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho” while you’re hard at w.o.r.k.…..it might make that job a lot more fun!

"Being early is being on time," says one of my sons-in-law and to be honest, it's a struggle! But today I read an article in the Wall Street Journal that had some very practical tips for being on time like:
+don't double book--no one can be in two places at one time--#of times I've forgotten to check my working calendar....countless!
+if you've got a top o' the morning meeting or appointment, have clothes ready the night before and use an alarm without a snooze function;
+if you get to the meeting early reward yourself by taking 5 with a cup o' joe;
+get enough sleep to think clearly;
+consider the cost of being late---remember those past consequences...;
+visualize yourself being on time--stay focused on that goal;
+when preparing to leave, let your phone go to voice mail;
+and finally set a phone alarm for when you need to get ready to leave and another for when you need to be out the door.
Now for implementation.....#the struggle is real!
